Secure FTP (SFTP or SCP) is a secure version of the FTP protocol  used for transfering files on the Internet. Secure FTP, like SSH is useful to prevent unauthorized users from gaining access to password and user information that is sent over the Internet.

There are many different Secure FTP client programs that can be freely downloaded on the Internet. We recommend using the following programs for their ease of use and the functionality that they provide.

For Windows use Either:

  • WinSCP2                                                                                                          (Available from: http://winscp.net/eng/index.php)
    Right Click on This Link to download. If using IE, choose 'Save Target As',
    if using Firefox, choose 'Save Link As'. Once saved to your computer, you double click the file to open the program.
     
  • SSH Secure File Transfer Client                                                                               
    Right Click on This Link to download. If using IE, choose 'Save Target As',
    if using Firefox, choose 'Save Link As'. Once saved to your computer, you double click the file to open the program.
    Note: If you downloaded Secure Shell for FTP, you do not need to download this. This program works for both telnet and FTP.
